Judging by his stunning photographs of the underwater world, you would be surprised to learn that Alexander Safonov is not a professional photographer but a software architect.
Armed with a diving license, the Hong Kong-based Russian has been experimenting with underwater photography for just two years—most of the pictures you see here are taken off the coast of South Africa—his favourite diving site—during the annual sardin run.
Other than large schools of fish arranged in amazingly formations, these pictures also captured rare images of sharks, dolphins and other beautiful marine wildlife.
