The World’s Largest Pizza

A team of five Italian chefs has broken the record for the world’s largest round pizza on 13 December 2012.

The 131-foot pizza was made using 19,800 pounds of flour; 10,000 pounds of tomato sauce; 8,800 pounds of mozzarella cheese; 1,488 pounds of margarine; 551 pounds of rock salt; 220 pounds of lettuce; and 55 pounds of vinegar.

According to the Huffington Post, the pizza weighed a whopping 51,257 pounds and it took the five chefs over 48 hours to bake the dough in over 5,000 batches.

Their efforts were finally paid off when the team broke the previous world record, which was set in 1990.

The newly-crowned pizza was named ‘Ottavia’—paying homage to the first Roman emperor, Octavian Augustus.
