George Orwell Classics Get New Covers

London-based designer David Pearson created new covers for some of George Orwell’s works, published by Penguin.

The new ‘Great Orwell’ editions include Nineteen Eighty-Four, Animal Farm, Down and Out in Paris and London, Homage to Catalonia, and Politics and the English Language.

Pearson explored typefaces and design approaches for his designs, and even created one of the most controversial covers for the dystopian classic Nineteen Eighty-Four—where the author and title is completely obscured with black foiling, referencing the novel.

“It’s obviously the risk-taker of the series,” Pearson told Creative Review.
