
No matter how hard we try to concentrate on something, the reality is that we don't know if we're under-cutting ourselves, or pushing ourselves too hard.
A group of Developers have incorporated EEG technology into a sleekly designed rubber headband—which they call, 'Melon'—allowing users to track their focus, when it is worn around the head.
Melon's EEG sensor monitors brainwaves and detects when the mind is focused. All the user needs to do is to start the connection between their brain and the headband, by way of a companion app on their smartphone.
The EEG technology will make use of user input data—like type of activity, location of activity, whether user is with or without company, and what emotions a person is feeling—and cross reference it with brainwave activity, to interpret and determine what environment a user focuses best in. Melon can accompany the user during exercise, study, work and also while one is listening to music.
This concept is highly useful because we might not understand ourselves as well as we might think.
For example, one might think a quiet space allows for maximum concentration—but for some, a cafe setting with ambient noise, might actually work better. In another scenario, Melon might be able to uncover that exercising with friends is actually more stressful for the user than s/he thinks it is.
Last but not least, Melon also reminds the user to relax when they need to, allowing for optimal focus in the long run.
