As part of her final year project at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, designer Tanya Shukstelinsky has created an urban housing concept that uses two sheets of suspended fabric.
The ‘Cocoon’ concept consists of two suspended sheets of fabric with stairs and handholds stitched in, that divide the space into different living zones—a dining area, a sleeping area, and a bath.
Shukstelinsky says her concept could be used to create an affordable housing solution in expensive urban areas. She says the ‘Cocoon’ could function as "temporary living spaces for urban nomads" and that “integration with modern technologies and smart textiles can provide the minimum we need for temporary accommodation”.
