Most people know that time is probably the most precious thing in life and that they should make every second count, but how many of us actually live by this philosophy?
Swedish publishing creative Fredrik Colting has created a watch that is both intriguing and disturbing—it counts down to the wearer’s death.
Reminded of the impermanence of life by his grandfather’s death, he wanted the “Tikker” watch to be a reminder of our mortality that would prompt us to live life to the fullest.
The amount of time that a Tikker wearer has left is calculated based on his personal data like age, BMI and how active he is—even with the watch counting down, it is still unknown if the wearer would beat his odds or die when the numbers run out.
Whether the watch is an accurate predictor of death is not the key issue—according to Colting, “Life isn’t about having more time, it’s about appreciating the time you have.”
The Tikker is currently sourcing for funds on Kickstarter—is this too morbid or a great way to get us to slow down and smell the roses?
