In Japan, Relaxing Communal Homes Contained Within Gigantic Greenhouses

Away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, Millennium City consists of a small cluster of beautiful greenhouses in which people live communally in wooden pavilions.

The eco-friendly project was an experiment that wishes to prove that people can live densely together but still have privacy—while the residents occupies their own wooden pavilion as a living area, they share the kitchen, bathing and recreation spaces in the greenhouses.

The creators of Millennium City has planted trees around the glasshouses to moderate interior temperature during hot summer days—solar energy is also used for lighting and heating.

Pavilions are are rented out for either temporary or long-term accommodation—with rents at about US$50 a month, it offers affordable getaways for people who are weary of the city.
