Stunning Aerial Photos Taken With A Camera Attached To A Kite Or Fishing Pole

A kite or a fishing pole is hardly the first things that would come to mind when one thinks about photography equipments, but they are precisely what photographer Gerco de Ruijter uses to capture his beautiful aerial shots.

Featuring both urban and natural scenes, de Ruijter’s images are incredibly well composed, considering that they were taken by a camera that has been attached to a kite flying 150 feet in the air or a trembling 30-foot-long fishing pole.

Using a remote trigger to activate the shutter, he makes all the necessary adjustments to the camera before launching it into the sky—while he tries to get the image right in-camera, he typically does a bit of post-production cropping.

These pictures are fascinating in their ability to shift between the abstract and the real—one can spend quite a bit of time poring over the details in them.
