A Taxidermy Sheep Cabinet Inspired By Salvador Dalí

Spanish design company BD Barcelona Design has created a taxidermy sheep cabinet, the latest in its range of Salvador Dalí-inspired furniture, according to an article by Dezeen.

Titled ‘Xai’, the stuffed lamb features a circular wooden table on its back and a drawer that opens from one side of its abdomen, with decorative rococo bronze feet replacing its hooves. Designer Oscar Tusquets Blanca drew upon a 1942 Dali painting called Interpretation project for a stable-library, in which a lamb is depicted balancing a telephone on its spine and containing a drawer in its side.

21 lambs were selected from a Parisian slaughterhouse and sent to taxidermist Maison Deyrolle, whom Dalí regularly patronized during his lifetime. A limited edition set comprising 20 white pieces and one special black piece was created, with the white lambs priced at €36,500 and the black one at €72,000.

They are part of the Dalí Furniture Collection which was started in 1972 by Blanca, a close friend of the late artist.

What do you think about dead animals being turned into furniture? Is it creative or is it just ethically wrong?
