The late Nigerian photographer J.D. Okhai Ojeikere, who passed away recently at the age of 83, left behind a collection of nearly 1,000 photographs depicting the marvellously intricate hairstyles of African women.
Taken on the street, at work and at marriages, the striking black-and-white images from his ‘Hairstyles’ series capture elaborate sculptural hairdos that are sophisticated works of art in themselves, offering a truly unique look at Nigerian culture.
