French photographer Sophie Gamand, whom we wrote about previously, returns with another photo series called ‘Watchdogs’.
This time, Gamand photographed a bunch of small dogs dressed in elaborate jewels and feathered accessories.
On her website, Gamand wrote that “a new trend has emerged in big cities” where small dogs—or ‘toy dogs’—are increasingly kept as accessories that match their owners’ extravagant lifestyles.
Through her photo series, Gamand also wondered if today’s dogs are increasingly being used as “security blankets for women who are afraid to go into the world alone”, as opposed to the past where dogs were commonly used as watchdogs that protected its owners.
