Fascinating Photos Show Evolution Of British Soldiers’ Kits From 1066 To 2014

1916 private soldier, Battle of the Somme

Photographer Thom Atkinson recently shot a series documenting the evolution of British soldiers’ kits from 1066 to 2014.

‘Soldiers Inventories’ features 13 kits that mark milestones in British military history, such as the Battle of the Somme in 1916 and the Falklands War in 1982.

The photographs are a fascinating look at the uniforms, weapons, equipment and personal belongings of a typical soldier of that era, and how they have changed over the years.
