The ‘World’s First Selfie’ Taken In The 1850s Is Now Worth Over $115,000

With its steep price of over $115,000, this “selfie” not only holds the record for the most expensive photographic self-portrait, but is believed to be the world’s first ever selfie too.

Taken by Swedish pioneering photographer Oscar Rjlander, the self-portrait was unearthed after it was found in a leather-bound album that originally belonged to him.

The album traveled through many generations before ending up with its current owner, who was surprised to learn about the value of Rjlander’s book at a recent auction in North Yorkshire, England.
