John Galliano Makes Fashion Comeback

According to British VOGUE, fashion designer John Galliano is making his comeback with a temporary residency at Oscar de la Renta’s studio in New York.

Previously dismissed by Dior in March 2011—following a saga involving his anti-Semitic remarks in public—the British fashion designer will be working with de la Renta for the next three weeks, as de la Renta prepares for the upcoming New York Fashion Week show.

Galliano has spent time recovering from his alcohol addiction, which was partly the cause of his drunken outburst in Paris.

“I am an alcoholic,” he said. “I have been in recovery for the past two years. Several years prior to my sobriety, I descended into the madness of the disease. I said and did things which hurt others, especially members of the Jewish community. I have expressed my sorrow privately and publicly for the pain which I caused, and I continue to do so. I remain committed to making amends to those I have hurt.”

De la Renta added that he has known the British designer for years, admires his talent, and welcomes his creative inputs.

“He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to re-immerse himself in the world of fashion and re-acclimate in an environment where he has been so creative,” de la Renta said. “While I am working on a collection, I sit with all of my assistants around me. I’m not a loner… I listen to everyone.”
