Colorful, Striking Street Art That Is Painted Directly Onto Asphalt Roads

Street art is conventionally found on the facades of buildings but Swiss-American artist duo Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann—also known as Lang/Baumann—has given this medium a literal twist by painting their colorful and striking pieces onto the asphalt directly.

In the latest installment of their “Street Painting” series, the artists have created an impressive large-scale artwork, featuring a bold, geometric pattern, that stretches down Jules Simon Street in Rennes, Francec.

Painted with road marking paint—traditionally used to create permanent road signage—the 59 x 3.9 meters artwork provides a visually exciting accent to its surroundings and turns the piece of road into an unexpected, gigantic canvas.

Allowing one to view familiar public spaces from fresh perspectives, Lang/Baumann’s artworks has the ability to “transform the mundane urban landscape into a colourful, poetical and utopic realm”.

The artists have also created six similar pieces in other parts of the world—you can view more of these “street paintings” below.
