The shimmering façade of the ‘Optical Glass House’ designed by Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP provides light for the residents – and the eco-garden within.

Located in Hiorshima, the exterior of the house is made of 6,000 glass blocks which were cast and cooled slowly, allowing them to become transparent.

Much of the light is filtered through the water basin skylight which is located at the entrance.

Although it may seem delicate, the glass façade is supported by 75 stainless steel rods, hung from a reinforced steel and concrete frame.

This green building is a stark contrast against the more tech-oriented residences in the area.
