Scientists Aim To Create Natural Lighting With ‘Glowing Plants’

The ‘Glowing Plant’ project involves using synthetic biology to insert bio-luminescent genes from fireflies and bacteria into plants, transforming them into ‘Glowing plants’.



The team behind the project envision that this will provide a sustainable form of lighting that does not rely on carbon-dioxide emitting sources.



Seeds from this newly created were sold via their recently successful Kickstarter campaign.



However, there are growing concerns about the risks of releasing this new plant into the wild and its danger to the environment.
