Hotel Turns Old Bed Linens Into Limited Edition Tote Bags

Rather than letting its retired bed linens head to the landfills, international hotel company Marriott has teamed up with British luxury accessories brand Lily and Lionel and British social enterprise SleepingBags, to transform these still useful materials into limited edition tote bags.

The ‘Recycled Bed Linen Tote Bag’ is a gray bag designed by Lily and Lionel, and features a print of a scene of birds in flight.

Made entirely from recycled bed linen from Marriott hotels in the UK, the bags are an effort to reduce the hotel’s environmental footprint.

Available for guests to purchase at £20 each (about US$31), only 1,000 of these bags would be created—of which, £10 of the sale of each would be donated to The Prince’s Trust.

Marriott is also planning to make hairdryer bags, newspaper bags and laundry bags from old bed linen, which would be available as amenities in its guestrooms.
