A Bike Helmet Disguised As Regular Hats, Lets You Commute In Style

The unflattering looks of the protective bicycle helmet may be the reason why many fashionable cyclists opt not to wear one—the clever Bandbox bike helmet aims to change that by disguising itself as several regular, stylish hats.

Created by New Jersey-based Dr Cheryl Allen-Munley, the Bandbox helmet is not only smaller than the average helmet—due to its use of elastomeric foam instead of the typical styrofoam—it is also more solid because it is a monolithic piece, as the foam is poured directly into the shell instead of being glued to it.

This innovative helmet can be worn with a variety of hat covers, which are attached to it securely by tightening and tying a string. Users can choose to turn their bike helmet into a newsboy cap, a fedora or even a feminine cloche.

The Bandbox helmet retails for US$60 while the interchangeable hat covers are priced from US$44—you can purchase them online.

Are you more inclined to wearing a bike helmet if it looks like a regular hat?
