IKEA Catalog Doodler Gets Offered A Job As An Illustrator At The Company

When UK-based illustrator Sarah Horne started doodling in IKEA catalogs for fun, she never imagined that it would lead to a job offer from the company.

Impressed with her fantastic, whimsical drawings of dragons, fairies and other mythical creatures, the Swedish furniture brand reached out to Horne to invite her to be its ‘Children’s Illustrator in Residence’.

Horne became an illustrator at its Wembley store in north London for a day, where she collaborated with hundreds of children on a fun holiday project titled ‘Mythical Meals’, aimed at making mealtimes more special.

It revolved around creating fantastic creatures for a holiday party, with Horne taking suggestions from the children on which monsters should be included at the dinner table. The kids even came up with meals like char-grilled elephant leg and monkey soup.

An avid dreamer and IKEA fan, Horne relished the opportunity to work with the company, saying that she used to conjure up visions of having “dinner with a dragon or breakfast with Bigfoot” as a child.
