Toshiba has unveiled the ‘world’s first’ SDHC card with built-in NFC (near field communication) technology that lets you preview its contents without having to plug it into a computer.
To use this feature, you’ll need an Android smartphone with NFC capability and a social ‘Memory Card Preview’ app installed on it. Simply load the app and place your phone near it, and it will tell you how much free space the card has, and display 16 thumbnails of photographs stored in it.
It eliminates the need to constantly plug SD cards into devices, making it a useful feature for photographers who have to juggle several cards.
The cards come in 8BG, 16BG and 32GB capacities, and will be available from February 2015, with the Android app launching around the same time.
