The massive installation allows visitors to walk through its wooden tunnels, creating an intriguing experience that stimulates the senses of sight, sound and smell.

As with his other installations, the “Transarquitetonica” is stamped with his trademark by using repurposed wood pieces of “skin”, fixed together into an “organic growth” like the roots of a tree.

‘DermoScreen’ App Checks If You Have Cancer By Snapping A Photo Of Your Skin

George Zouridakis, an engineering technology professor at the University of Houston, has developed an iPhone app called ‘DermoScreen’ that checks if you have cancer by snapping a photograph of your skin.

Aside from the software, the app uses a special magnifying lens called a dermoscope attachment to illuminate your skin in a certain way. Take a picture of the area and the app will provide a diagnosis in seconds. It has achieved an 85% accuracy rate so far, similar to that of dermatologists.

The traditional method of cancer diagnosis involves removing all or part of a suspicious growth and examining the tissue under a microscope–if the app makes it to market, it could provide cheap and effective cancer screenings for millions of people without access to medical specialists.

The ‘DermoScreen’ app is currently being improved on to test for a flesh-eating bacteria in Africa called Buruli ulcer, with the help of a US$412,500 grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Find out more about the app here.

Touching Photographs Of New Dads Taken Moments After Their Child’s Birth

London-based photographer Dave Young recently captured touching portraits of new fathers at Chelsea and Westminister Hospital.

They were taken for a special Father’s Day book by The Book of Everyone, a book-making website that lets you personalize books for any occasion.

The portraits were shot on the nights of 23 to 26 April, and perfectly capture the “awe, worry and relief on the faces of new Dads who have just witnessed the birth of their sons or daughters,” said Steve Hanson, co-founder of the website.

After having their portraits taken, the happy fathers were asked to describe how they felt, as well as pen a message to their newborns.

Check out some of the photographs below and find out more about the book here.
