Infographic: How Advertising Agencies Get Their Names

Creative duo Rob & Joe of online community Cargo Collective have produced a intriguingly insightful chart—“Taxonomy of Advertising Agency Names”—in an attempt to “make sense of the names people give to ad agencies”.

The impressively complex chart analyses some of the world’s most famous advertising agencies and trace their origins to a few main sources of inspiration.

According to the chart, while many agencies are named after sensible subjects like “founders” and “places”, there are also quite a number that are randomly named after “inanimate objects” and “physical or metaphysical attributes”.
