Mimicry can be an art form—West Virginia-based artist Brett Kern’s astoundingly realistic ceramic sculptures of inflatable plastic toys are a great example of this kind of art.
At first glance, these pieces look just like the colorful, shiny air-filled toys that are sold at carnivals and gift shops—in fact, they are made entirely from clay.
Kern has managed to reproduce the tiny wrinkles, outlining seams and even the sheen of inflatable toys, which made his artworks such convincing, deceptively soft-looking replicas of the original objects.
Wouldn’t it be fun to place one of these sculptures at home and watch the look of surprise come over your guests’ faces as they pick them up?
