Looking for a place to work hard and work out? Then be sure to check out the Brooklyn Boulders Somerville in Massachusetts.
Redefining the open office concept, this unique establishment is a rock climbing gym that doubles a collaborative work space.
Believing that “physicality stimulates innovation and creativity”, the ‘Active Collaborative Workspace’ aims to blur the lines between work life and play.
Found on top of the gym’s 120-foot-long and 22-foot-high climbing wall, the work space has a lounge area, a communal table, as well as standing desks with built-in pull-up bars and seated desks with balance ball chairs for people to exercise during meetings or work.
According to Jesse Levin, the gym’s “Senior Cultural Chameleon”, he told Fast Company that no special membership was required and members of the gym could work there for free.
Levin believes that one of the main benefits of the work space is the “proximity it gives to the kinds of people who would want to work in a climbing gym.”
“Climbing inherently attracts venture capitalists, artists, [and] programmers. It’s a very cerebral sport, and they mix naturally. We’re giving them a space where they can embody and live this lifestyle”, he added.
