London-based design studio PANhas allowed passers-by to interact with Bristol’s objects on the streets.
The art project is the winner of the Playable City Award that aims to turn Bristol into a more interactive city.
Called ‘Hello Lamp Post!’, each public object is assigned with a unique code that allows you to identify them.
When the project is launched, users are able to “Hello + the name of the object + its code” to a special number and the object will ‘come to life’ and starts texting back with questions.
The responses from the passers-by are stored on an online database where the information can then be used in another question for the next user.
For example, the object can ask “Someone once told me that the best place to get a sandwich here was on X street. Do you agree?”
The approach aims to not only augment passer-bys with technologies but also make them playable and engaging, creating a playful experience that encourages people to notice and interact with what is around them.
