The students of ECAL—the University of Art and Design Lausanne—in Switzerland has created an intriguing chair that self-destructs after just eight uses.

The chair is held together by structural joints that is made of wax, which will start to melt once the chair has been sat on for eight times.

A small sensor detects each time someone sits on the chair and activate the count-down—once the limited number of uses run out, the nichrome wire embedded in the wax joints heats up and melt the wax, causing the chair to fall apart.
