Reputable English academic publisher Routledge has announced that it will be producing a new journal—the simply, but also provocatively, titled Porn Studies.
This journal is the first of its kind to be dedicated to the critical exploration of “cultural products and services designated as pornographic and their cultural, economic, historical, institutional, legal and social contexts”.
Inspired by this unusual academic journal, Prague-based graphic designer Pavel Fuksa has—in collaboration with copywriter Karolina Galacz—created a selection of “Dirty Coursebooks” covers that imagines what the textbooks for an academic course in pornography would look like.
Designed to be reminiscent of classic Penguin books, the covers feature cleverly worded titles that describe common themes in pornography with dry academic language—the fictional authors names on these covers are also witty sexual puns.
At first glance, these covers do look like vintage-style textbooks—take a closer look at them below.
