An Array Of Flying Light Blocks Impressively Form Shapes, Words In The Sky

Following the launch of Spaxels in 2012—a LED-equipped quadcopters used to create three-dimensional light art in the sky—the Ars Electronica Futurelab has recently upgraded it into a new version, called the ‘ Smart Atoms’.



Instead of using LED lights, these newly enhanced quadcopters are remodeled into flying building blocks which can be interlinked, and will be able to produce images that form visual likeness and also generate objects with material-virtual characteristics.
