Georgia-based photographer Molly Strohl’s work is centered around the word “jettison”, which is defined as “a voluntary sacrifice of cargo to lighten a ship’s load in time of distress” on her website.
The word is visually reflected in the distressed faces, expressive poses, and “melting” body parts of the subjects in her photo series, ‘Jettison’.
In her photographs, the subjects’ faces, limbs, and other body parts appear to “melt” into pools of skin and tears—it seems like they were purging parts of themselves to seek relief.
