Two Years’ Vacation by Jules Verne
Tokyo-based artist and designer Tomoko Takeda creates amazing book sculptures from famous novels.
For her series ‘ものがたりの断片’, (‘monogatari no danpen’, which translates to “story fragments”), she carefully carves and cuts patterns into their pages, turning literary works into dazzling, layered art pieces.
Most delightfully, each design reflects the contents of the book. For example, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince features the titular character, while Natsume Sōseki’s I Am A Cat depicts a pop-up feline.
"I made books not to read, but to enjoy looking at," says the artist.
