‘100 Years in Tokyo’ is a series of 202 portraits of Tokyo-based people aged 0 to 100, photographed by Finnish photographer Petri Artturi Asikainen.
Taken from 2009-2012, the project required Asikainen to roam the streets of the metropolis in search of men and women, to collect pictures of both sexes for each year of age.
He first asks his subjects: “Can I take a picture of you?” And if they respond positively, he would then ask: “How old are you?”
The photographer hoped that the collection of portraits would visually represent a portrait of the Japanese city.
