London-based Japanese illustrator Takayo Akiyama has created incredibly detailed, illustrated maps of England that feature beautiful and quirky details.
Documenting quintessentially British elements in her maps, the illustrator’s wonderful imagination makes her maps a delight to pore over—for instance, her map of West England for fashion retailer Alfred Dunhill depicts the queen as a cute hamster.
She has also produced an amazingly intricate nautical map of London that is inspired by the age of empire maps—by cleverly employing a fish-eye perspective when drawing this map, she makes the viewer feel like they are looking at it through a porthole.
