China launched Art Basel Hong Kong last week, an exciting inaugural event that features hundreds of relatively unknown artists from the Asia and Asia-Pacific regions.
Among the the many talented exhibiting artists is Indonesian sculptor Ichwan Noor, who has arrived on the scene with an awe-inspiring piece that is made by molding a genuine 1953 Volkswagen Beetle into a perfect sphere.
To create this visually arresting sculpture, the artist took real parts from the iconic vintage vehicle and combined them with aluminum and polyester to form a massive sphere measuring 180 x 180 x 180 cm.
The result is a majestic and magical-looking piece that looks like it was made by a giant who simply shaped the car in his hands, like a snowball.
This is not the first time that the artist has molded Volkswagen cars into seemingly impossible geometric shapes—he had previously turned another VW Beetle into an awesome cube.
