Design Studio Creates Flexible, Textile-Like Wood Material

‘Woodskin’ is a new material made by Milan-based design Studio MammaFotogramma that has the unique properties of having both the rigidness of wood and the flexibility of textile.

This hybrid wood-textile material is made by sandwiching a layer of vinyl mesh between two layers of triangular cut wooden tiles.

The wood makes ‘Woodskin’ extremely tough and the vinyl mesh layer gives it its malleable nature.

Besides allowing a designer to create complex structures, ‘Woodskin’ is best used in “dynamic products” because of its ability to absorb structural tension stress without giving way.
