A 15th-Century Church Gets Transformed Into An Elegant Bookstore

Located in the Netherlands, this Dominican monastery which was founded in 1465, this place was restored form 1983 to 1988.

Now, with the help of BK Architecten, this elegantly designed place has been transformed into a bookstore called “Waanders In der Broeren”.

The architects had to preserve the arches, stained-glass windows and ceiling paintings, while making way for the 700-square-meter floor. The pipe organ was also preserved, adding character to the bookstore.

The three additional floors were also placed at the side wings of the church, and can be easy detached without ruining the structure.

A neutral color palette was also used, complementing the books on shelves as well as the color scheme of the church, creating a serene atmosphere for people to browse in peace.
