‘Presence’ is a series of beautifully ethereal photographs by photographer David One that depicts the intimate relationship between two people in mourning.
However, instead of two people consoling each other, his heartbreaking images feature the ghostly figure of a man watching over a woman who is inconsolable with sorrow.
With their streaks of clouds and backgrounds of misty fog that stretch on endlessly, the photographs are an elegant and haunting metaphor for how the presence of our loved ones still lingers after they have departed this world.
Heavy with sadness and heartache, they are made all the more devastating in stark black and white, and convey the immeasurable grief one feels after the passing of a loved one.
