In this age of rapid texting and social media, receiving a hand-written letter now appears quaint and charming—so, imagine how thrilled you would be if you were to receive one of these illustrated envelopes that legendary artist Edward Gorey sent his then-editor Peter F. Neumeyer.
Over the course of 13 months, when Neumeyer collaborated with Gorey on three children’s books, the creative duo enjoyed a thought-provoking correspondence where they talked about a wonderfully diverse range of topics.
Not content to just share wise and witty words with his friend and editor, Gorey also sent his letters in envelopes bearing his own quirky and endearing illustrations.
In the book Floating Worlds: The Letters of Edward Gorey and Peter F. Neumeyer, Neumeyer reveals this stunning collection of illustrated envelopes and letters for the first time, giving readers a peek into a unique and stimulating friendship between two creators.
