Artists have found many ways to upcycle and create different forms of art from the humble vinyl record. While many of these artistic creations are unrelated to the subject, American artist Daniel Edlen creates vinyl portraiture that pays homage to the musicians and their music.
Edlen uses white acrylic paint to paint realistic portraits of individual artists on their own records, “creating art on the artifacts of creativity”.
Edlen’s passion for music inspired him to pursue vinyl art—“Music has always been a big part of my identity. It's an important language along with words and images to communicate with the rest of humanity”, he says on his website.
As the records will not be playable after being painted on, Edlen tries to source for damaged records to work on. His works are available to purchase here.
