Batman Imagined In The Style Of Medieval Japan

Concept artist Scott Wade has illustrated the superhero Batman and his fellow characters in the style of Japanese woodblock prints, Ukiyo-e.

Imagined in the ‘Sengoku’ period in Japanese history, Batman is liken to a ninja, and Commissioner Gordon summons the bat using drums, instead of the Bat-Signal spotlight.

Wade also gave Dr Fries (Mr Freeze) the Ukiyo-e/’Sengoku’ treatment, to have him wear a kimono instead of his suit—and reimagined him as a traveling medicine man whose life was destroyed, and he’s haunted by the ghost of his wife Norah.
