The idea of a futuristic underwater city may grace the pages of a science-fiction novel, but for London-based conceptual designer Phil Pauley, it is something he wishes to make a reality.
Pauley spent 20 years working on Sub-Biosphere 2, a self-sustaining underwater city which will house and feed 100 people.
This miniature civilization was inspired by the University of Arizona’s plans for a research facility, and comes with eight “bio-domes” attached to a central support biosphere, containing dwelling pods as well as one for observation.
Ambitious in nature, Pauley hopes that these pods will provide amply enough for its residents so that they will not have to rely on the outside world.
The designer is also looking for people to publish his science-fiction trilogy for young adults, which also features a similarly designed underwater city, but until then, we will have to be content with what he has come up with visually.
