‘Siri’ has been everyone’s handy pocket assistant since 2011, when the voice-command program was introduced on the iPhone 4S.
Now, you can put a face to Siri: voiceover artist Susan Bennett. Bennett’s voice is ubiquitous—she can be heard on telephone systems, GPS systems, and speaker systems in airports.
“I started my life as a machine,” Bennett said in an interview with CNN. “I'm sure that you hear my voice at some point every day.”
Bennett never knew how her voice would be used when she signed a contract with software company ScanSoft (now known as Nuance Communications) in 2005, offering her voice for use in a database to construct speech.
When she heard ‘Siri’ for the first time, she immediately recognized her own voice. Co-workers and voice experts can confirm that Bennett’s voice is “a 100% match” with Siri’s, but Nuance Communications and Apple decline comment.
Is Bennett really the voice of ‘Siri’? Watch her in an interview with CNN and judge for yourself.
