Bart van Polanen Petel is not just a heavyweight boxer, he paints too. He paints by punching on the canvas he’s working on.
Each artwork is created by pounding on canvas-wrapped punching bags, after dipping his boxing gloves into cans of paint. As a result, no two pieces of art will look exactly identical.
According to Fast Company, he said in a statement, “As a boxer, I am inspired by this primal nature of pugilism. As an artist, I pay tribute.”
He continued, “Instead of crushing bones and shattering teeth, I use my fists to create. I use exclusively boxing techniques, with real boxing gloves. No brush allowed.”
Petel spends up to three hours creating each masterpiece, which can be sold for up to £1000.
