After recently unveiling a working prototype of a wearable device that could possibly rival the Google Glass, Baidu is now working on developing a smart bicycle that can generate electricity and measure your performance as you pedal away.
Baidu’s ‘Dubike’, which was created together with the Industrial Design department at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, is equipped with multiple sensors that collect data about your heart rate, pedaling frequency, velocity, and even foot and seating pressure—you can easily access this information via an accompanying app.
To power up the electronic components of the smart bike, a “hub” fixed to its rear wheel transforms kinetic energy into electricity.
According to Dezeen, the Dubike will be launched in China “by the end of the year”.
