Cycling up a hill can be a rather ardous task, especially when your route has plenty of steep slopes that await you.
However, cyclists in Trondheim, Norway, get to conquer the various hills in their city almost effortlessly, thanks to the brilliant “bicycle lifts” fitted on the streets.
The ‘CycloCable’, situated at the Brubakken Hill in Trondheim, is the world’s first bicycle lift that pushes cyclists uphill in urban areas.
The bicycle lift, first introduced as ‘Trampe’ in 1993, was recently reintroduced in 2013 as CycloCable to include new safety regulations.
When in use, an angled footplate emerges from its track and pushes the rider forward at an estimated speed of four to five miles per hour.
The CycloCable, which can ferry a maximum of five cyclists each time, also accommodates scooters and baby strollers.
Would you like to have one of these bicycle lifts installed in your city? Each CycloCable costs approximately US$2,400 to $3,200 per three feet to install.
