Man Collects, Washes Worn Shoes, Gives Them To Homeless Around NYC

Meet Andre McDonnell, founder of a heart-warming movement called It’s From the Sole, which gives back to the society by handing out free shoes to the homeless on the streets of New York City.

Despite having a day job, McDonnell never fails to make his rounds from SoHo to Grand Central Terminal and Union Square to personally distribute new and refurnished shoes that he has collected.

It all began when he gave his sneakers to a homeless man three years ago after a game of basketball with his friends. He told New York Post that “as I walked away, I felt the gravel under my own feet, and it just hit me there has to be something more that I can do”.

Now, McDonnell spends up to US60 a week at the laundromat where he makes sure that the donated shoes are thoroughly washed before being handed out.

Head over to his Facebook page, and website to see how you can play a part in giving back to the society during this festive season.
