Using unwanted junk and scraps of leftover thrash, American artist Zac Freeman turns them into amazingly detailed portraits.
To create each portrait, Freeman takes discarded items like colored buttons and plastic bottles caps, and glues them together on a wooden canvas to form a stunning portrait of a person’s face.
Viewers can choose to view his artworks up close—admiring the stunning details of each individual piece of trash—or from a distance, with all the items blending in to form a whole portrait.
“I feel the junk is more powerful being present,” explained Freeman. “It is an actual thing to be reckoned with that existed in this time and place and carries in and of itself. The result is a time capsule of objects that reflects our culture.”
