Interview: The ‘Hero Designer’ Who Funnily Rejected An Offer To Do Free Work

Last week, Brooklyn-based designer Dan Cassaro wrote a funny and sarcastic reply to an offer to do free work, and posted it on Twitter.

This email quickly went viral and has since been retweeted thousands of times—apparently, many other people who do creative work are able to relate to the sentiments reflected in the amusing email.

Website AdWeek got in touch with Cassaro to ask him a few questions about this unexpected internet fame—this interview is not only about the latest online sensation, but also highlights the issue of free work in the creative industries.

According to the designer, asking “professionals to compete against each other for potential ‘exposure’… is demeaning, and it lowers the value of everyone’s work”.
