Tired of how their religion is being portrayed in mainstream media, Muslims around the world have launched a powerful social media campaign to speak out against the extremist group, the Islamic State (ISIS).
Using the hashtag #NotInMyName, the campaign seeks to remind the world that the ISIS does not represent Islam.
The campaign was officially launched on 10 September—after the murder of James Foley and David Haines—by London-based organization Active Change Foundation (ACF), with a video that shows British Muslims voicing their concerns.
One woman says, “We must unite together to stop this group from damaging Islam and damaging Muslims.”
“The murder of an innocent man has no justification in any religion or walk of life,” said the founder of ACF Hanif Qadir in an interview with Mirror. “These terrorist ISIS are not true Muslims, they do not practice the true teachings of Islam; peace, mercy and compassion and they are all the enemy of all mankind.”
According to Mashable, the social media campaign has gained some attention on Twitter, with over “14,000 tweets in the last 7 days”. You can follow its progress here.
