Baker Creates A Gingerbread 'Bouchon Bakery' For A Chance At His Dream Job

What does one have to do these days in order to get their dream job?

Vancouver-based pastry cook Oliver Bernardino really wanted to get the attention of acclaimed chef and restaurateur Thomas Keller, so he recreated a miniature of Keller’s Napa Valley Bouchon Bakery in edible gingerbread.

The massive gingerbread replica of the bakery is so intricate that no detail is forgotten. Items like Keller’s blue apron, a roll of green painter's tape and a Sharpie pen used to mark containers in Keller's kitchens were included, along with other elements like garbage bins and benches.

Creating the replica required 70 hours of work, where Bernardino referred to his own photos from his visit, info found online, and meticulous studying of the Bouchon Bakery cookbook.

Bernardino's replica Bouchon Bakery is now on display at the Vancouver Hyatt until January 1. It is a part of the hotel’s annual "Gingerbread Lane," an exhibition of 30 gingerbread houses to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
